Dr. R. Marquez is one of the leading Orthopedic Surgeons within the national and international medical communities. For over 15 years he has served in the Rio Grande Valley community. His compassion and respect for his patients' health and well-being act as a catalyst for innovation in the operating room and in his office. His main clinical interests are in sports medicine and in the total reconstruction of the joints.
Dr. R. Marquez has done more for his community and his patients than just serve as a physician. He is an entrepreneur, involved in the region's economic development, building medical and health facilities designed to accommodate and facilitate patients/customers life style. He is most known for his involvement in new technology, developing and designing new devices that benefit patients.
In 1999, Dr. Marquez designed and patent his own mobile bearing knee implant known as RAM Mobile Bearing Knee. His design was developed in conjunction with Encore Orthopaedic located in Austin, TX. Currently, he serves as an international instructor (USA, Germany, and Latin America) for the use of computer aided technology and is working with reputable orthopedic engineers improving and modifying navigation techniques. The new technological devices improve clinical outcomes and provide a higher level of accuracy and safety. Dr. R. Marquez was born and raised in Mexico City. He received his M.D. in medicine at the University of La Salle and completed his internship at the American British Cowdray Hospital, Mexico City, in 1978. He finished his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery/Spinal Cord Monitoring at the University of Ottawa in Canada and completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada in 1986.
Dr. R. Marquez speaks three languages Spanish, English, and Italian. He is Board certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the Mexican counsel of Orthopedics and Traumathology A.C. He also holds board certifications by the Arthroscopy Board of North America, by the Fellow American Academy of Neurology and Orthopedic Surgeons, and by the Diplomat-American Academy of Pain Management. He has 20 years of experience in the field of medicine with participation in multiple medical societies and counsel for international evaluation. Dr. R. Marquez has earned various honorary awards and is a member of many professional societies such as the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Texas Orthopedic Association, and Hidalgo County Medical Society, to name a few. He also serves as team physician for several professional soccer teams, including the Chivas of Guadalajara, Mexico, in addition to numerous local high schools.
Dr. R. Marquez has served as President of the Board of Managers at Cornerstone Regional Hospital (CRH) since 1998. In 1998 he also served as CRH's Chief of Staff. In 1994 he was appointed Chief of Surgery for Edinburg Medical Center.
