OSC's first "Live Surgery Apprenticeship" with Med High
We just hosted our first Live Surgery Apprenticeship with the 11th grade students of Mr. Laney's Health Science II-Rehab class from Med High. Med High is one of four high schools within the Exemplary, all-magnet South Texas Independent School District. Open to students from Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties, the campus provides students with the opportunity to jump start their professional careers in the medical industry while in high school. The 32 students that participated in the event watched Dr. Marquez perform a total knee replacement surgery. The surgery was streamed from the operating room at Cornerstone Regional Hospital and into our auditorium where the students watched vigilantly. Following the procedure, Dr. Marquez joined the students in the auditorium to answer questions and provide advice about the importance of loving your career. He encouraged the students to follow their passions, for it is with that that they will excel in their vocations.
